Villa Romaine Restaurants & Bar in Thao Dien area

Villa Romaine Restaurants & Bar is about 10-15 minutes from the Opera and the chaos of the city center. The place serves authentic (south) Italian food in a romantic setting by the river bank. Interestingly, there is a boat service from District 1 directly to the restaurant called Saigon River Express which is more costly than a 15-minute cab yet provides exciting experiences. The wine list here is amazing with great many choices with reasonable prices. There’s a dinner buffet opinion for $45 without drink with four main conrers: salad, pasta, BBQ and dessert. Another suggested dinner is Caesar salad, 1 Fillet Steak Forestiera, 1 Margherita Pizza, 1 Spaghetti Carbonara, 1 Tuscan Soup, 1 San Pellegrino and a bottle of Yalumba for $60.

Address: 197 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2

Some reviews about this place:

Henryw_9: This place is surely the best Italian in the city (not that there are that many nice one in the first place). The outdoor seating is one of the most romantic and relaxing setting that we had dinner at in recent years (except of course Bali …) and the food was very good with one of the best wine lists I have seen anywhere at what I would consider bargain prices (they must have made a mistake on conversion or bought the wines 10 years ago!).
The service is quite good but some of the waiters don’t speak very good English, but then again we sort of got used to that even in 5 star hotels in Vietnam. Overall this is a must for any sort of romantic dinner (they had candles but they kept getting blown out by the breeze coming from the river) away from the chaos of the city center. It takes about 10-15 minutes from the Opera house and costs about 40 HKD.

Jurong from Singapore: We went to this place for breakfast and had a very enjoyable time sitting on the outdoor terrace and watching the boats go by with their characteristic noise up and down the river. The breakfast choice is good with local and European choices and the eggs benedict are good. Even with the heat the breeze from the river made it pleasant to be outside and it felt like being on a resort in Sentosa or Bali. The only thing that they can improve would be the level of English of the staff but we did eventually manage to get our special order from the supervisor so overall we really had a great time, great way to start the day!
