Singing real estate agents are increasingly popular in the US where entertaining YouTube clips can help boost an individual’s public profile.
Agent Megan Hill Mitchum from Century 21 Signature Real Estate in Iowa has received over 264,000 views for her comedic parody of Adele’s hit song Hello .
The hit YouTube clip uploaded earlier this year, tells the story of an agent who is waiting for buyers to call in order to seal the deal.
It feature hilarious lyrics like “call me anytime, just not in the middle of the night because I know you don’t believe me but I have a life.”
The song was recorded for an industry event and is the first tune the agent has uploaded on the popular video sharing website, as reported by Sky News Real Estate‘s Prue Miller.
Mitchum’s video is one of the most successful real estate themed tunes, but it isn’t the first.
Last year, a Phoenix professional dubbed ‘the singing realtor’ uploaded a popular Taylor Swift parody to YouTube.
Singing about both the challenges and excitement involved in selling houses, Andrea Romeo filmed two videos.
One Day Off
Romero’s first song One Day Off is a parody to the Taylor Swift song Shake it Off.
She uploaded the video to YouTube in August 2015 after being inspired by full-time work in the industry.
Although Romero got her real estate license at the end of 2010 and began working straight away, she says it was “incredibly part-time” because she had four young children.
“When I finally went full time in 2013, it was a challenge for me to consistently close two transactions a month while still maintaining my household and my sanity. That year was really the inspiration behind One Day Off,” she says.
The lyrics convey the daily challenges of being an agent, including working long hours, dealing with flaky buyers and keys not fitting the door – which anyone in real estate can probably agree with.
After the success of her first hit Romero recently released a second track in June, Get It Sold.
The song is a parody to the popular Disney song, Let It Go, from Frozen.
This time, she’s singing from a vendor’s perspective, telling about the highs and lows you face when your house is on the market.
Romero covers everything from feeling sad leaving a home full of memories, to feeling upset when there are no offers and then feeling ecstatic when you get an offer.
The videos have been a fun addition to the company’s marketing plan, with their popularity boosting business for the ‘Singing Realtor.’
Romero says that not only do her clients love the videos and use them when recommending her to their friends and family, they’ve also put her on the map in the real estate world.
“About one third of our business so far this year has come from referrals from other agents and most of those are due to the videos. I have certainly made some incredible relationships as a result of it” she says.
Romero can also be booked for real estate functions and has performed at different venues for both small and large audiences.
As well as singing at local networking events she has been the opening act at Inman Connect, a prestigious American real estate awards night.
She also performed at and later won the Keller Williams talent competition at the group’s annual convention.
Romero plans to keep on performing, no matter the size of the venue, and finds it an incredible experience.
Despite a growing reputation in the real estate world Romero is not considering opening her own business, saying she’s found her fit at Keller Williams.
“I don’t know that that would be my strength. I do know that I love coaching and growing my team, so that is where I intend to continue to focus my energy.”
Although she sings about the stresses of real estate, Romero loves the limitless opportunities that are in the industry.
“You can build your business as big or as small as you’d like and the freedom that can come from that is unmatched in other professions” she says.
The mother of four says she never imagined her videos would be so well received and still can’t believe it most of the time.
“I am seriously so honoured that people have enjoyed the videos so much that it really is a passion project of mine to make people laugh and to bring some humour to the industry.”
The YouTube sensation is currently working on more tracks and, although she isn’t giving away any of the details just yet, she spills that the next one will be “pretty ridiculous.”
