The scariest house listing of all time

Just in time for Halloween a house has come onto the market in the US that will scare the heck out of you.

Located in the Hartford region in Connecticut, the five-bedroom, four-bathroom family residence looks like the perfect setting for a horror movie.

Bought by would-be artist and carpenter Nikolay Synkov in 2001, he and his team completely remodeled the home to reflect his unique aesthetic.

The former shipbuilding engineer emigrated with his family to America from Russia in 1994 and felt he was finally able to indulge his love of architecture, design and poetry.

Inspired by classical Russian architecture, early twentieth century abstract art and Russian poetry, Synkov has decorated what looks like every square centimetre of the home with his own flair.

Wood carvings, heavy lace, traditionally-themed fabric, florals and metallic decals feature in most of the rooms.

There are painted battle scenes and some rooms even have titles like “Illusion of Marble in Squares” and “Threshing Accepted by the Walls”.

Before listing the house, visitors could even take guided tours of the property which is now on the market for around $US340,000.
